VPOPSCAN

Current version: 1.7
VPOPSCAN is a set of instructions along with all the necessary programs required to install a Virus Scanner solution into Paul Smith's VPOP3 E-mail server software. These instructions will allow VPOP3 to scan all incoming E-mail message attachments, including ZIP's, for viral infection. If an Email attachment is suspected of being infected, the E-mail message can be redirected to another Email user (either quarantined on the Email server or redirected to a qualified user for further processing) or entirely deleted. Once set up and properly installed, VPOPSCAN works transparently in the background, in concert with VPOP3, to help eliminate the threat of email virus.

Download the latest version of VPOPSCAN.ZIP.

VPOPSCAN contains the following:

  • The VPOPSCAN Manaul - Explicit instructions for implemetation, testing, and troubleshooting. Distributed as a standard text file (VPOPSCAN.TXT) and an HTML version (VPOPSCAN.HTML).
  • The latest release of the McAfee protected mode SCANPM utility. This is the engine that checks the attachments for virus. Check for updates from the McAfee Web Site.
  • The latest release of the McAfee Anti-Virus Defination files. Please be sure to update these files often! Check the McAfee FTP Server. It's a free download.
  • An archived (.ZIP) file with the EICAR Anti-Virus Test File. This file is included with the package to allow testing of the VPOPSCAN installation. Please note when downloading VPOPSCAN.ZIP your Anti-Virus program may report the VPOPSCAN.ZIP file contains a virus, when in reality the EICAR.COM file is program designed specifically to test antivirus software. To learn more about the EICAR Anti-Virus test file please visit the EICAR Test Page.
  • The latest release of the PKWare command line ZIP program - required for checking .ZIP file attachments.
  • A freeware decoder - The decoder restores the MIME encoded messages (with their attachments) back into their origional file format. To learn more about encoding please refer to MIME Encoding and Decoding page.
  • A sample VSCAN.BAT file for invoking Anti-Virus checking by VPOP3. This file may require editing to work for your paticular setup.
  • What's New: A list of fixes and enhancments to VPOPSCAN.
