Crossover Cables

This document shows how to properly construct an ethernet Crossover network cable. This cable can be used to cascade hubs, connecting two Ethernet hosts back-to-back without a hub or switch, or connecting two CSU/DSU's back to back for local testing of Wide Area Network (WAN) configurations. This crossover cable will work for 10BASE-T & 100BASE-TX. NOTE: You cannot use crossover cables on 100BASE-T4 devices. Use Category 5/5e unshielded twisted-pair (UTP) cable. The maximum cable distance between the port and the attached device is 100 meters (328 feet) including all patch cables, panels, and connectors. The minimum length is 1 meter (3 ft).
